FR : L’objectif du projet est d’optimiser la visibilité sur la nouvelle Mairie tout en conservant celle sur la chapelle Saint Ludan, voisine du site, qui représente un point visuel incontournable de l’entrée Ouest de Nordhouse. En tant que bâtiment administratif important, la nouvelle Mairie doit s’imposer et participer conjointement avec la chapelle à la nouvelle image de l’entrée du village. L’enjeu est également de s’intégrer convenablement dans ce site qui possède l’image d’un charmant village de la plaine d’Alsace avec ses maisons alsaciennes à colombages et ses façades colorées. Le parti architectural consiste en un volume simple et compact permettant une mise en œuvre facile et efficace. Cette forme relativement classique avec sa toiture à double pente permet au bâtiment de respecter les typologies voisines. Seule excroissance du bâtiment, le hall se prolonge par son sas sur le parvis et marque lisiblement l’entrée principale du nouvel équipement.

Le bâtiment s’habille de matériaux nobles et pérennes. Un bardage de cuivre à joints debout vient couvrir la toiture et les façades Nord et Sud. Les pignons Est et Ouest sont recouverts d’un parement de grès des Vosges calepiné en damier. Ces matériaux locaux gagnent leur image contemporaine par une utilisation et une mise en œuvre réfléchies. Ce choix s’est fait tout autant pour leur qualité esthétique et leur durabilité dans le temps que pour leur écho à l’environnement immédiat.

UK : The aim of this project was to optimise the visibility of the new Town Hall while retaining the view of the neighbouring Saint Ludan Chapel, which is a landmark at the western entrance to Nordhouse. As an important administrative building, the new Town Hall must be somewhat imposing and contribute, along with the chapel, to the new image of the entrance to the village. The challenge was also to integrate the building within its setting, which is a typical village on the Plain of Alsace with half-timbered houses and colourful façades. The architectural solution is a simple compact volume that made the construction process simple and efficient. This relatively classical form with its pitched roof allows the building to harmonise with neighbouring typologies. The only protruding feature is the glazed porch leading to the lobby, clearly marking the main entrance to the new building.

The building is clad with high-quality durable materials. Standing seam copper cladding covers the roof and the north and south façades. The east and west gable end walls are clad in Vosges sandstone slabs laid in a checkerboard pattern. Careful use and installation of these local materials gives them a contemporary look. They were chosen as much for their aesthetic qualities and durability as for the fact that they echo their immediate surroundings.
